What is Image Quality Analyzer?

Image Quality Analyzer measures a photo and shows you the numbers: sharpness, noise, exposure, contrast, colour balance and resolution, each scored out of 100, plus an overall score and a plain-language list of what would improve the image. It exists for the moment when a photo looks vaguely wrong and you cannot name why — the histogram knows, and this page reads it for you.

What each score means

Sharpness is the variance of the Laplacian — how much fine edge detail the image contains. Below about 45 the photo will read as soft. Noise uses Immerkær's estimator, which cancels image structure and measures what is left; grainy night shots score low. Exposure combines the mean brightness with the share of pixels clipped to pure black or pure white — clipping matters, because detail in a clipped region is gone rather than dark. Contrast is the spread between the 5th and 95th luminance percentiles. Colour balance compares the red, green and blue channel averages, and names the cast when it finds one. Resolution is scored from the true pixel count.

What this tool refuses to do

It has no opinion about whether your photo is beautiful. Composition, subject choice, the moment you caught — none of that is measurable with a histogram, and a tool that scores "aesthetics" is scoring its own taste, not your image. Every number on this page is a measurement with a definition you can read; every suggestion links to the tool that actually fixes the measured problem, with your image carried across in one click.

The analysis runs on a 512-pixel working copy, which makes scores comparable between a phone photo and a DSLR frame — sharpness and noise are scale-relative, so measuring everything at the same working size is what makes 60 mean the same thing for both.

Nothing is uploaded. Tools on this page that use a neural network download the model to your browser once, cache it, and run it on your own machine from then on. Frequently Asked Questions

From classical image measurements, each with a public definition: variance of the Laplacian for sharpness, Immerkær's estimator for noise, luminance histogram statistics for exposure and contrast, gray-world channel means for colour balance, and the true pixel count for resolution. Nothing is a neural network's opinion and nothing is random.
Because those are not measurable with a histogram, and a tool that pretends otherwise is scoring its own taste. This page limits itself to quantities it can actually compute, and tells you the definition of each one.
Above 70 the photo is technically healthy. Between 40 and 70, look at the individual cards — usually one specific problem is dragging the average down, and the suggestion next to it links to the fix. Below 40 the image has multiple measurable problems, most often low resolution plus compression damage.
The estimator measures at a 512px working size, where fine film grain or high-ISO texture that your eye tolerates at full size becomes measurable. A low noise score is a statement about the pixels, not a demand that you fix them — grain can be a choice.
Pixels at pure black or pure white. Detail in a clipped region was not recorded — it cannot be recovered by any editor, which is why the exposure score penalises clipping harder than plain over- or under-exposure.
