📖 What is the DMCA?

Understanding the Digital Millennium Copyright Act

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a United States copyright law that provides a framework for copyright holders to request the removal of infringing content from online platforms. It also protects online service providers (like S2FreeTools) from liability for user-generated content — provided we follow the law's requirements.

S2FreeTools is based in India but serves a global audience. While the DMCA is a U.S. law, we apply its principles to all copyright complaints we receive, regardless of where the complainant is located. We believe that respecting intellectual property is a universal value — not just a legal obligation.

Our platform does not host user-generated content in the traditional sense (like a forum or social network). However, users may upload files to our tools for processing. While these files are temporary and automatically deleted after processing, we take copyright claims about uploaded content seriously.

📝 How to File

5 steps to submit a DMCA takedown notice

Follow these steps to ensure your notice is complete and can be processed without delays.

01

Identify the Infringing Content

Locate the exact URL(s) on S2FreeTools where the allegedly infringing material appears. Be specific — we need direct links, not just a domain name. If the content appears in multiple places, list each one separately. The more precise you are, the faster we can act.

02

Identify Your Original Work

Provide a clear description of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed. Include details like the title, author, publication date, and URL where the original work can be found. If the work is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, include the registration number — this helps but is not required.

03

Provide Your Contact Information

Include your full legal name, physical address, phone number, and email address. We need to be able to reach you if we have follow-up questions. Anonymous reports or reports with incomplete contact details cannot be processed under DMCA requirements.

04

Include Required Statements

Your notice must include two key statements: (1) "I have a good faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law." and (2) "The information in this notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, I am the owner or authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed."

05

❓ DMCA FAQs

Common questions about our DMCA process

Everything copyright holders (and users) need to know about takedowns and counter-notifications.

How quickly do you respond to DMCA notices?

We acknowledge receipt within 48 hours on business days. Valid, complete notices are typically resolved within 5-7 business days — often faster. We take copyright infringement seriously and prioritize these requests.

What happens after I file a valid DMCA notice?

We will promptly remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing material. We will also notify the user who posted the content (if applicable) and provide them with a copy of your notice. The user may file a counter-notification if they believe the removal was a mistake.

Can I file a counter-notification if my content was removed?

Yes. If you believe content was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may file a counter-notification. It must include your contact information, a statement under penalty of perjury that the material was removed by mistake, and consent to the jurisdiction of your local federal court. Send it to [email protected].

What if I'm not in the United States?

The DMCA is a U.S. law, but we respect international copyright norms. If you're outside the U.S., we still encourage you to reach out with a detailed infringement report. While we may not be legally bound by DMCA requirements for non-U.S. cases, we will evaluate and act on valid reports from any jurisdiction.

Do you have a repeat infringer policy?

Yes. Users who repeatedly upload infringing content will have their accounts terminated and their access to S2FreeTools permanently blocked. We maintain internal records of valid DMCA notices and enforce this policy strictly.

Need to report something else?

If your concern isn't copyright-related — maybe it's a bug, a tool suggestion, or a general question — use our regular contact form. We read every message.
