What is AI Image Enhancer?

AI Image Enhancer measures what is actually wrong with a photo — exposure, contrast, colour cast, noise, softness — and fixes exactly those things. Press Auto Fix and the page reads its own measurements, sets six correction sliders accordingly, applies them, and then tells you in plain language what it did: "lifted underexposed midtones", "neutralised a blue cast", "reduced noise". Every slider stays yours to adjust afterwards.

What the measurements are

When a photo loads, the page computes classical image statistics on it: sharpness from the variance of the Laplacian, noise with Immerkær's estimator, exposure and contrast from the luminance histogram, and colour cast from the gray-world channel means. Auto Fix is those numbers turned into slider positions — an underexposed photo gets its midtones lifted in proportion to how underexposed it measured, and a photo that measures fine is left almost alone. Nothing is applied blindly to every image.

What the corrections are

White balance is a gray-world correction, capped so a genuinely warm sunset cannot be "fixed" into concrete. Exposure is a gamma curve, contrast a stretch around the midpoint, and all three are composed into a single lookup table before any pixel is touched, which is why moving a slider re-renders in about a second even on a large photo. Sharpening is an unsharp mask applied to luminance only — sharpening colour channels independently is where the rainbow fringes in cheap tools come from. Noise reduction is a gentle median filter, deliberately applied before sharpening, because sharpening amplified noise is the classic way to ruin a photo.

Where the honesty is

This page does not claim a neural network repainted your image. The corrections are the same explainable operations a photo editor would apply — measured, parameterised and listed after every run. What most one-click "AI enhance" buttons do behind their spinner is exactly this; the difference here is that you can see the numbers and override any of them. For reconstructing detail that is genuinely gone, use the AI Image Upscaler, which does run a neural network and says so.

White balance, exposure and contrast are composed into a single lookup table before any pixel is touched, so applying them costs one pass over the image regardless of how many corrections are active. Even large photos re-render in about a second.
Sharpening recovers apparent crispness in a slightly soft photo. It cannot undo real motion blur or a missed focus, because that information was never recorded. For small or compressed images the upscaler, which reconstructs detail with a neural network, is usually the better tool.
Because the reverse order amplifies the noise first and then smooths away the detail you just sharpened. Denoise-then-sharpen is the correct pipeline order, and the page enforces it regardless of which slider you touched first.
The white-balance correction is capped precisely for this reason. A gray-world algorithm sees a sunset as one huge orange cast; the cap stops it neutralising scenes that are supposed to be warm. If it still pulls further than you like, the slider is right there.
PNG is lossless. JPG and WebP are far smaller; at quality 90+ the difference is invisible for photographs. AVIF is smaller still where your browser supports encoding it — and the page falls back to PNG with a notice where it does not.
